Firsts

We've had a couple of firsts in the past few days. On Friday, Sean made his first "sick visit" to the pediatrician's. Sean's right eye has been a bit goopy and it turns out he has conjunctivitis. A few drops in his eye every day for a week ought to fix him right up.

Next, Sean's first day of daycare was today. I think he did okay - no complaints from him so far. The poor kid couldn't nap comfortably, though. It's the school's policy that babies sleep on their backs and our little boy prefers his tummy. The teachers had to keep trying to return him to his back while he slept. At home, we put him on his back, but he almost always immediately rolls over onto his tummy. I had to call the pediatrician to get a note to give to the daycare stating that sleeping on his tummy is okay for Sean. Now that daycare has the greenlight, maybe Sean can nap better tomorrow.

Busy bees

Mommy's first full week back at work was a blur - I'm so busy at work! It's good, though, because my brain is busy and I'm not focused on counting the minutes until I get to go home to my giggly, dribbly, chatty baby boy. We capped off our week with a visit to Long Beach Island to meet Sean's great uncles from Massachusetts.

What a time we had last week!

First, Sean was baptized last Sunday! It was a gorgeous day full of family and love and little Sean seemed to enjoy himself. He slept through most of the service but woke up just in time for the big event and then he charmed the whole congregation with his big smiles. Thanks to Uncle Dannie for the amazing photos of that great day.

Then it was three days full of errands, a library visit for storytime, and getting ready for dun-dun-dunnnnnn - mom to go back to work. I went back on Thursday and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be - mainly because the little guy was home with his daddy for two days. This week Sean is home with his Grandmommie and Pop-Pop, getting lots of attention, kisses, and bottles.

He is mobile

Last night Sean rolled over in his crib - and he wasn't swaddled. I woke up hearing him grunting "eh eh eh" on the monitor and went into his room. He was squirming around like a turtle stuck on its back and had rotated himself so that he was lying width-wise in his crib. I watched him for a little while and finally, Sean seemed to realize that by getting his big, brainy head turned to the direction he wanted to go, the rest of his body would follow. And so he rolled... and then he craned his head up at me and smiled. He is mobile.

Back to the pedatric urologist

We went back to the pediatric urologist to discuss the results of last week's ultrasound of Sean's kidney and bladder. The doctor wasn't as optimistic as last time, pointing out that the kidney is still large - it hasn't gotten bigger, but it hasn't gotten any smaller, either. So, we're off to another ultrasound in a few weeks and another consultation with the pediatric urologist. Ugh.

Last Saturday we took Sean to see the US soccer team play Panama in the quaterfinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Sean rooted on the US as they won 2-1!

Forecast: Squiggly with a chance of rolling over

Ever since he came home from the hospital, Sean's been a squiggly, squirmy, little guy. To help this little mover sleep, we put him in a nice, tight swaddle for bedtime so that he doesn't wake himself up. For the past couple of days, Sean's been making the move to try to roll over. And Tuesday morning, I found Sean in his crib, with one arm out of the swaddle, laying on his belly, craning his head up, saying "eh, eh, eh." Apparently Sean can roll or flip himself over when he's swaddled. This scared the heck out of me, so we're going to have to wean Sean from the swaddle.

Ouch ouch ouch ouch

We had a good and bad day. The great part of the day was that we got to meet up with Thom John for lunch! It was such a treat to see Daddy in the middle of the day! The bad part was that Sean went to the pediatrician's for his two-month check-up and it was an utter disaster.

The appointment took two hours due to many eating breaks. Apparently Sean picked this time to get ferociously hungry and his silly mom only brought one measly bottle for him. Sean sucked down his one bottle, then he nursed, and he still wasn't satisfied. Luckily, we were able to score some sample bottles of formula from the doctor, and finally, we were able to get on with the exam. Sean charmed the doctor with his smiles and chit-chat during the exam and the doctor pronounced Sean to be in perfect health. Then, it was time for his shots. (Duhn-duhn-duhhhhn)

Sean got five immunizations - one by mouth and four shots!! Oh, the horror! He cried and shrieked and hollered as though his skin was going to turn inside out. After many attempts to soothe him, I finally put him back in his car seat where he promptly passed out. The poor little muffin - at least we won't have to go back there for another two months.

Weight: 11lbs. 13oz., 50th percentile

Length: 23.75 inches, 75-90th percentile (I measured him at 24 inches, Sean was being really wiggly for the nurse)

Head: I didn't catch his head measurment, but I'm sure it falls into the "brainy" percentile :-)

The pediatrician said Sean looks great and isn't too worried about Sean's left kidney, but will defer to what the pediatric urologist thinks. We go back to the urologist next Thursday for another consultation.

2 Months!

Happy 2 Month Birthday, Sean! We'll get your height and weight stats on Thursday when we go to the pediatrician, but you are definitely getting bigger everyday! You don't fit into your newborn clothes anymore and are a little too long for some of your 0-3 month clothes already. You wear a smile on your face for most of the day, everyday, and even giggle and squeal when you get really excited about something. You are also finding your voice - you love to "talk" a lot! You chatter on to daddy, me, Pepper, that handsome baby-in-the-mirror, your mobile, and anyone else who will listen.

Happy Fourth of July! We took a short trip to LBI on Friday and introduced Sean to the water. We took him to the bay beach where the water was warm and calm - he did really well!

Visit with the pediatric urologist

We visited the pediatric urologist on Wednesday to take a look at the results of Sean's renal scan, along with his previous tests. The doctor showed us all sorts of cool pictures and graphs of the data that was collected. The doctor did not find a blockage, which is great. He did find that the left kidney is slow to drain - a normal kidney takes up to 12 minutes to drain, and Sean's right kidney took 8 minutes, but the left took 14 minutes.

So, Sean's left kidney remains in the "we should follow this" range, but it's in the lower part of that range. I'm taking Sean back for another ultrasound on his kindeys and bladder in a couple of weeks and the doctor will look at those images to make sure things are staying the same. Fingers crossed!
