Owie

I got a call from the kids' daycare late Monday afternoon - Sean was climbing on some playground equipment which he tripped and hit his chin hard, leaving a nasty gash.  The teachers put a big band-aid on the cut, but it looked pretty bad.  Apparently he was more upset about hitting his knee and leg when he fell than what happened to his chin.  When I picked him up, he relayed the story to me quite dramatically and I took a good look at the cut - it was small, but deep!  After consulting with Daddy, we went to a nearby urgent care office to get the cut looked at.

Sean was an excellent patient - he was so brave and followed every instruction given...

Clare was right by his side - she held his hand and watched anxiously when the doctor was examining Sean.  After a lot of poking, pulling, and prodding, the doctor determined that Sean only needed skin glue for his "superficial laceration" instead of stitches.

After the nurse cleaned out the gash, she helped the doctor apply the glue. Sean held still during the application of the glue and kept declaring, "This doesn't hurt one bit!  Not at all!"

...and after the glue dried, Sean and Clare both got ice pops!  

We're to keep his chin away from water for a couple of days and Sean is not supposed to touch the area.  The glue should come off on its own after a couple of days!

Appointment and Playtime

I sprung the kids from camp early and we went to see our favorite dentist! Our dentist and Sean get along like peas and carrots ... they chatted and laughed together all through the appointment.  Sean was extra-happy that he got to have marshmallow-flavored fluoride!

Clare needed a little help warming up but eventually she got brave enough to sit in the chair on her own:

After the kids' teeth were cleaned, they received new toothbrushes, and lollipops(!!), we went over to a playground that I'd seen in a newspaper a couple of years ago and put on our "playground bucket list":

More cuteness

Mommy took the kids to the pediatrician tonight - Sean was sent home today with another fever!  While waiting for the doctor, both kids were sitting on the exam table and working hard to crinkle up the paper liner as loud as they could.  Suddenly Sean said, "Sit on my lap, my little sister!"  Clare was happy to oblige and silliness ensued:

"Take our picture, Mommy!"

"Clare, say cheese!"

 

Time for a quick selfie before the doctor came in...

... to determine that Sean has a double ear infection!  We've got some medicine for him and hopefully he'll be feeling 100% again soon.

Cute Overload

I was going through some pictures on Thom John's phone and came across these gems - these pictures were taken a few weeks ago when Sean was sent home with a fever and Thom John took the kids to the pediatrician  so Sean could get looked at - enjoy :-)

Four Year Well Visit

We took Seanybear for his four year well visit on Tuesday!  Not only did he get his annual physical, but he got a hearing and vision test, as well.  He passed those with flying colors and was cool and calm while getting his blood pressure taken, despite the "pinchy" feeling the cuff gave him.

Sean did great during the exam and the doctor declared him to be in good health and hitting all his milestones.  The doctor was especially impressed with Sean's ability to stand on one foot. 
One of the most peculiar things about the exam was that Sean had to put on a gown. He fussed with it a lot at first, but then he seemed to get used to it.

Poor Seany got two shots - his last MMR shot and his last dose of the chickenpox vaccine.  At least he got a couple of cool Bugs Bunny bandages!

Sean's stats at four:
Height:  41 inches (61st percentile) (3 inches more than last year)
Weight: 40lbs 2 oz (80th percentile) (5lbs more than last year)

Even his feet look healthy :-)

Two Year Well Visit

We took Baby Clare to her two year well visit last week.  The pediatrician said she looks great - she's healthy, talking well, and hitting all her developmental milestones.

 

We also got her current stats:

Height: 35.75 inches (92nd percentile)

Weight: 33lbs 8oz (98th percentile)

Head: 20 inches (99th percentile)

 

 While waiting for the doctor to come to check on Clare, Sean worked in his

tracing workbook while Clare cheered him on :-)

Siiiick

Yesterday I got a call from the kids' daycare - Clare had a fever and seemed pretty miserable. So I picked her up and we settled in for a nice afternoon of hanging out at home - just us girls - when the phone rang again ... Sean had a low-grade fever and said he didn't feel well either. So, we put our shoes back on and went to go get Seanybear.

Sean also said that his throat hurt, so his favorite teacher gave him a popsicle:

The kids suddenly had a burst of energy, so we decided to cook up some fun in the kitchen. Sean wanted to bake SUGAR COOKIES for VALENTINE'S DAY! Luckily I chose a low-sugar recipe since the lack of sugar in the cookies was more than made up for with the insane amount of sprinkles on top :-)

While the cookies baked, we rested and watched "The Jungle Book" on DVD:

The next morning, I took the kids to the doctor for a joint sick appointment.  We ended up in the jungle room and Clare chattered on about 'nanas nonstop. Sean was so helpful at the appointment - he didn't even flinch when the doctor tested him for strep throat!

The doctor determined that Clare had an ear infection and Sean just has a bad cold, but we'll keep an eye on him.  After the appointment, we went home for some rest.

"I tired!"

 After resting, we did a Valentine's day craft, colored, and made a blanket fort:

After lunch and naps, we went to the "medicine store" (CVS) to pick up Clare's prescription and to the library to get some new books. We spent the rest of the day resting, playing, and snacking. And Clare showed us that just because it's a sick day, it doesn't mean we can't dress up in our finest:

The kids seemed better this morning and were back at daycare today. However, this afternoon Sean's teacher noticed that Sean felt warm and took his temperature - another low-grade fever!  Sean was acting his normal self, so hopefully a couple of days at home with help him get back to 100%.

18-month well visit

Sean and Mommy accompanied Clare to her 18-month well visit last week. When we walked into the exam room, Sean exclaimed, "We've never ever seen THIS room before!"  We sure have, Seanybear - for your 18-month check-up!

 

Despite a long wait for the doctor, the kids stayed cheerful - Sean read books and munched on snacks while Clare kept busy exploring the exam room ...

... and checking out the instrument shelf.  When the doctor came in, she decared that Clare looks very healthy, happy, and is hitting her developmental milestones. She also laughed since Clare spent the whole exam asking, "Nana? Mees? Nana?" Hmmm ... I wonder why she was so hungry for a banana?

And then Clare got THREE shots and she was NOT happy :-(

But Brother was there to cheer Clare up by helping her with her favorite activity - making a confetti party with the paper for the exam table!
